Memories of August 1914, part of 14-18 NOW, is one the UK's landmark events to mark the centenary of the start of First World War. It comes just two years after Liverpool came to a standstill for Sea Odyssey which paid tribute to the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic.

The event saw one million people converge on the streets, taking in the awe-inspiring sight of three beautifully crafted giants which roamed the city on a heart-rending tale of love, loss and reunion. Those three days in April 2012 have become some of the most unforgettable in Liverpool's history and this new event is expected to join Sea Odyssey and become etched in the hearts and minds of everyone lucky enough to be part of the event.

Memories of 1914 is co-commissioned by Culture Liverpool and 14-18 NOW, The First World War Centenary Art Commissions.

Change to time and route of Giants

Rehearsals are currently underway for Liverpool’s Memories of August 1914 – the giant spectacular which is the UK’s flagship World War One commemoration this year.

There have been a couple of alternations made to the timings and locations of some aspects of the show.  These are:

Friday 25 July

The giants will wake 30minutes earlier than previously advertised. This means the Little Girl Giant and her pet dog Xolo will wake at around 10.30am, the Grandmother will wake at approximately 11.00am.  This rest of the day is expected to run to the approximate times already published.

Saturday 26 July

No change

Sunday 27 July

Instead of starting at Clarence Dock, the show will start on The Strand. It will start an hour later, beginning at around 10.00am. It will finish around noon as already published.

This is a live show so all times and routes are approximate and can still be subject to change.
